Longlisted for Young Architect of the Year 2009, 2010 & 2011, HÛT is an architectural practice located in Shoreditch, London.
HÛT has undertaken over 30 projects in the last 2 years, ranging from modest refurbishments and extensions, to new build one-off houses. Always putting a strong emphasis on sustainability, advising clients on the best way to procure their own project, and ensuring design of the highest quality.
Over the last 15 years HÛT have built up a wide network of consultants, engineers and builders to help deliver your project.

Scott Batty
Director
Scott has been featured as an architect in The Sunday Times, The Observer, and on BBC3 and HBO television.
He is excited that people are living in their homes in a more ‘active’ way, rethinking traditions and rules, and asking ‘what if…?’
Scott has a special interest in helping people get ‘hands on’ with their houses, having participated and taught on a number of volunteer construction projects including building houses for the Indigenous people of North America. He spends his weekends doing DIY on his own family home in St Albans.
Andrew Whiting
Director
Andrew has a particular interest in architectural education and practice. He teaches at Degree and Diploma level at the Bartlett School of Architecture UCL, and Westminster University, and is an RIBA Awards 2011 judge
He has an interest in beautifully simple design, and believes in making buildings whose qualities will mature with time and use.
Alongside HUT, Andrew also co-directed the PAL Architecture Labs, a series of interdisciplinary workshops for the construction industry. Andrew also runs a series of practice-based architecture workshops for local school children with Inspire Hackney
Andrew is married with 2 young children and lives in a 1950′s SPAN house in Blackheath
Rachael Davidson
Architectural Assistant

After completing her architectural education Rachael worked in New York and London on a diverse range of projects with a focus on private residences in London, New York, Pennsylvania and Mumbai, India. She has also worked for the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment and Architecture for Humanity, UK.
As part of the HUT team Rachael has worked on refurbs, extensions and a new build house in Devon. She is particularly interested in innovative solutions to spatial and environmental pressures within cities. She currently lives in a renovated flat in East London and enjoys the luxury of being able to walk or bike to work.
Peter Garstecki
Architectural Assistant
Peter joined HUT to work on high quality, bespoke, residential scale projects with an emphasis on innovative design, a highly considered use of materials, and develop sustainable building technologies.
Prior to HUT, Peter worked at Wilkinson Eyre.
Rachel Eccles
Architectural Assistant

Rachel completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Nottingham. During this time she was shortlisted for the D&AD student competition for ‘Environmental Design, Interactive Installation.’ She continued her studies in London where she received the Technical Studies award from the University of Westminster for her Diploma project.
During and after completing her education, Rachel has worked on a range of commercial, education and residential projects and was presented with the Broadway Malyan Graduate development award for her post-part I conceptual design project.
Since joining HUT, Rachel has worked on innovative residential projects including extensions, conversions and new build homes. Rachel enjoys working at various architectural scales and has a particular interest in sustainable designs that are sensitive to their surrounding context.
Liam Saunders
Architect
Liam joined HUT in June 2009 having previously worked with the practice as a year out student and a part-time architectural assistant during his studies.
After completing his Diploma at the University of East London, Liam was featured in Building Design magazine’s Class of 2009 and shortlisted for the RIBA Silver Medal.
Liam is particularly interested in working with timber as the structure, skin and internal finish of dwellings- having worked on a number of such projects in the office. He also has a background interest in algorithmic architecture and its translation to the domestic scale.
Liam lives in East London with his architect brother.
